Atriet

A youth housing project with focus on community has started the construction phase in Ørestad Syd. The project is called Atriet and will consist of 206 new youth housing apartments with a large shared covered atrium. The covered atrium will contain a community kitchen, lounge functions and community balconies and will act as a fantastic meeting point for the building’s young students.

Building plot 1.15 in Ørestad Syd has a fantastic location in the transition between Fælleden and the dense city. This gives people the opportunity to live in a dynamic and rapidly developing capital, while living close to nature.

We believe that there is an interesting potential in designing and building housing for young people, in an area that is predominantly developed with family housing. In addition, the building site is located as a neighbor to the area’s future community center – Byens Hus, where the young residents could conceivably contribute with life and activity. Based on this basic idea, the building site’s local plan requirements and the desire to design an innovative youth housing concept, we have outlined a project with a covered courtyard that also functions as an intimate entrance and distribution area with the option of staying, from which there is access to all the homes, but also functions as the residents’ residence and meeting place.

The covered courtyard acts as a distribution area with the possibility of staying, where there will be several functions, in the form of access roads and community. On the ground floor, you enter the building and enter a large covered community space. From here you can access your accommodation via 2-3 stairs and lifts distributed along the length of the room. The upper floors are provided with balconies, which are the way you arrive at your home on the upper floors. The balconies also have the function of becoming a place where you quickly meet the neighbors and orient yourself in the community space on the ground floor, for what is happening next.

The covered courtyard can contain several community functions for the young people, such as a communal kitchen, cozy areas, bar, indoor fitness etc. Here the young people can enjoy themselves and cultivate community, without disturbing the neighbours.
