Svanemølleholm

Svanemølleholm 6.7 is a new office building located in Nordhavn, one of Copenhagen’s fastest developing urban areas, where the city’s urban structure meets the coastal landscape. The building holds a significant position in the master plan with active facades and green edge zones facing Sundkrogsgade, Holmegade and the new neighbourhood square. The location strengthens the connections to the surrounding city life and nearby green areas such as Kranparken. Together, these areas form the foundation for an urban space full of life, and a friendly, open and green neighbourhood.

The building is organised as a classic block of flats around a green, bright atrium, forming the project’s inner focal point. The surrounding landscape is intended as a green and welcoming urban space with small niches for longer stays and varied planting. Active edge zones create a natural transition between public and private areas and contribute to urban qualities with open and inviting facades at street level.

Native species, robust pavement and recycled materials anchor the project in the site’s industrial history and strengthen the area’s natural qualities. The urban spaces are placed strategically to account for the microclimate and flow of pedestrians and creates a pleasant experience for both passers-by and employees. Overall, architecture, urban life and landscape are united in a coherent whole that supports both everyday use and Nordhavn’s long-term development.

Sundkrogsgade is marked as a green street with avenue trees and plant beds. The planting on the west side supports the qualities of the distribution street and ties the area together in a varied, informal expression with multi-stemmed and standard trees, low shrubs, flowering plant beds and grasses. Native species in large, open plant beds ensure a good basis for growth and a high level of biodiversity. Additional measures, such as using tree stumps as insect hotels, are included.

To ensure a beautiful year-round impression, the planting is combined of species flowering in the springtime and berry-bearing trees and shrubs in autumn. In addition, trees and shrubs of different ages and sizes are planted to ensure a varied plant expression from the start of the project. Shade-tolerant species are prioritised in the courtyard and to the west, while sun-loving species are prioritised in the east.

The project combines urban connections, active edge zones and new urban spaces to create meeting places between people and nature. The result is a friendly, welcoming and green urban district with strong connections and a high quality of life at street level.
